At 4 years of age, Grace was adoped in Pope County, Arkansas, July 1916, by her grandparents, James Kenneth and Pleasant Joanna Biffle. The adoption was with the consent of her father, after he and her mother separated using the grounds that "the child had no suitable home and that the father of said child has given his consent and is willing that above named petitioners adopt Grace Helen Biffle." However, she is living with her father, step-mother, and half-sister in 1920 in Heglus County, Oklahoma. In 1930 she is found in the household of Clyde W. Redd and her mother Edith, along with a 2 year old half brother. (Crawford Co., Arkansas, T626-71, p. 2A, E.D. 19) | ||
